Good to have a reader back here though:-)

I find it surprising that it is said that the OPC grows 10% a year. It has been quite a while since there was a significant growth. Examining the five most recent reports of the statistician of the OPC report, the only year where there was significant growth was 2001. Years subsequent to that barely approached 5% growth, and this year saw a decrease of .5%. While the statistics don’t show this, I wonder what the ratio is of professions of faith of covenant children verses their dismissal (or being kept indefinitely on the rolls). Even from the recent growth at my church, there is a vast disproportion of professions of faith by covenant children verses those received from “outside” the church. So, even if there are more baptized members being added compared to those who die, I think there is a lack of intentional “missionality” even to those who should be the easiest for the OPC to reach.

Maybe what the OPC needs to grow is to clone Tim Keller?Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08035592248355582901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439004.post-49869186999227298012007-01-27T10:15:00.000-05:002007-01-27T10:15:00.000-05:00I haven't stopped by in like...a long time. I completely agree with you (no surprise there).

I'm curious if you ever heard the reformed mantre "The OPC is growing, but only a controllable 10% a year, not something uncontrollable and dangerous like that left-leaning PCA."

I used to hear it at WTS from students from time to time (sad). When I heard it, it always seemed to be more of a justification for "keeping things the way they were" rather than being more intentionally more missional, etc. I was in the OP at the time and jokingly thought to myself, "yeah, that probably just means OPC members are being born faster than they're dying."

Thoughts?JDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11010472396443993553noreply@blogger.com
